As a designer, I've dedicated my studies to interrogating the ways in which we interact with the printed publication. Regularly perceived as an object to be handled exclusively by the eye, I’ve strived towards exploring the explicit relationship between the production methods and materiality of the book, and how these factors can be utilised as avenues of communication. With this constant emphasis on editorial and publication design, I have managed to build a meticulous approach to design, one that I wish to further expand through continual exposure to these fields.
Philatelic Lexicon
Utilising postage stamps as the concept to be communicated, the form of this book looks to harness all of the synonymies of philately and stamp production in order to coherently express the full extent, and intimate beauty, of postage stamp design and creation. Regularly presented in books as a scaled up and out of context image, Philatelic Lexicon explores the idea of representing information in its purest form. Employing technicalities and production methods unveiled through research, each of the eight included stamps are represented under a number of categories through a frequent interchange of stock, specialist materials and paper manipulation.
